Teradata Active System Management (TASM ) and its Functions

  • It is made up of several products/tools that assist the DBA or application developer in defining and refining the rules that control the allocation of resources to workloads running on a system.
  • These rules include filters, throttles, and workload definitions.
TASM is an enhanced compilation of three core products consisting of the following:
  • Teradata Dynamic Workload Manager(TDWM)- Manages And Monitors Workload Strategies
  • Teradata Manager- Analyzes Historical Workloads
  • Teradata Workload Analyzer (TWA)-Analyzes and Recommended Candidate Workloads.
TASM  allows User to perform the following:
o   Limit User Concurrent Access
o   Monitor Service Level Goals
o   Determine the Workload on A System
o   Prioritize and Optimize Mixed Workloads
o   Block or Reject User Queries Based on Table Access
o   Provide Consistent Response Times
o   React to Hardware Failures.

  • When utilized together, these tools can monitor workloads in real time along with providing historical reports based on resource utilization by workload.
  • By analyzing this detailed information, workload definition can be modified to improve query performance, and resource allocation.
